You can't find any files because the service doesn't exist anymore. It has been discontinued and it first started with the removal of the installation package from the official website, then the software slowly died. Those errors you've encountered are caused by this.
I recommend choosing something else, like uTorrent instead of ExpressFiles.

ExpressFiles is now a discontinued application. This also means that no updates will be released to fix possible issues with the application on future versions of Windows. The only thing I could recommend is to reinstall the software to check its functionality after a fresh install.
Secondly, right click the executable file and go to Properties > Compatibility, then select a previous version of Windows from the list as you can see in the image below.
I successfully downloaded Express Files a few years back. Since then, I have replaced my laptop twice (problems not related to Express Files). Now I bring up the Express Files app and when I type in my selection and hit the download button, four seconds later the software "unexpectedly " shuts down and Microsoft will inform me when a solution is available. What is going on and why?

The ExpressFiles service doesn't appear to be available anymore. The software was previously available, but after some time the download for the application was removed leaving only the website with its presentation, then after more time the domain hosting the software expired and it now displays a generic search page.
The error you encounter is directly related to this because compatibility might be involved in the cause of the errors meaning that you're trying to run an old application on new PCs with modern operating systems.
I once was downloading something that I didn't want anybody to accidentally see. I turned on some feature so the small loading windows wouldn't come up and I didn't have to be informed when my downloads finished. The problem I'm having is that the same precaution disallows access to view "my downloads" or the option menu to change it back.

You will have to access the same setting and turn it off to show the downloads. For download applications this is sometimes called an incognito mode that downloads the files in the background without notifications or something related.
Another problem with the application is that it can't be downloaded anymore. I have tried to access its official website, without results.
